Dog & Ram Spirits: Labels and Visual Branding
About
For the Dog & Ram founders, this project began with a blank slate of what their flagship spirits—and overall visual branding—would look like.
Our challenge was to collaboratively form that brand vision and turn it into an oh-so-sippable reality.
With the visual brand and labels, we set out to evoke a sense of nostalgia, agricultural adventure, and scientific curiosity—speaking to people who are observant of their natural surroundings and keen on details.
The labels are inspired by the distillery’s agricultural surroundings, with a field sketchbook style that examines the various ingredients or qualities of each spirit.
Scope and Roles
Prior to the design of the labels, it was crucial to form the aesthetic direction for the young brand in collaboration with the distillery founders, to better understand the visual context for the flagship spirit labels that were yet to develop. The designs were then created with Illustrations from Anna Farba and the existing Dog & Ram logo.
This project included:
Consultation, expansion, and updating the overarching visual brand
Art direction for illustrations
Graphic design for the flagship spirits labels and packaging (3 of the 5 shown)
Print/paper consultation; proofing and production setup. Printed by Niagara Label.
Outcome
Now at home in the historic carriage house-turned-tasting room, the nostalgic bottles/labels create a sense of warmth and familiarity that welcomes first time visitors and regulars alike. With the flagship spirits and the opening of the tasting room, Dog & Ram Spirits has become a gem in the community and is a destination for distillery-lovers seeking a spirited agricultural adventure.
